A Little Update
There’s something about the beginning of autumn that makes you notice how quickly time moves. The mornings have started to feel different. There’s a crispness in the air when you step outside, the kind of cold that makes you pull your sleeves over your hands. It feels like summer is slowly letting go.
It’s been a minute since my last blog post, and there’s actually been quite a lot happening behind the scenes.
I’ve been working on a really exciting new collection which will be coming soon. It’s going to be a fine jewellery collection made from 18-carat yellow gold, and I’m really excited to finally share it with you.
I’ve also got a piece coming soon which was born out of a commission. I love being challenged and having the opportunity to work on something new and completely different. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy making my ready-to-wear pieces, and I’m definitely a little more in my comfort zone with them. But whenever I’m commissioned to make something that pushes me in a different direction, I’m reminded of exactly why I love working with precious metals in the first place.
There’s something about being given a completely new challenge, figuring out how to make an idea work and watching it slowly come together that I find so exciting. It’s that feeling that makes me want to stay up all night working on something special. I think that’s one of the things I love most about being a maker — there’s always something new to learn and a different problem to solve.
The last couple of months, however, have been incredibly busy for a completely different reason. We’ve had the summer holidays with the kids, which has meant non-stop activities, ice creams, swimming, sunshine and lots and lots of time together. We really did get to spend so much time together and make some amazing memories.
For the longest time over the last couple of years, I felt like I was constantly trying to balance everything, so it was really nice to just be a mum for a while. Of course, it came with its own stresses — anyone with children will understand that! — but I genuinely loved having that time with them.
It also made me realise how important it is for me to have that balance. I love being a designer and a creative, and I love what I do, but I think it’s just as important to have moments where I can completely switch off from work and just be present with my family. Sometimes, stepping away from something is exactly what you need before coming back to it with fresh eyes and new ideas.
And speaking of new ideas, I’ve also been thinking about the possibility of running a jewellery-making workshop in the future. I’d love to get a small group of people together who are interested in learning about jewellery making and having the chance to make something themselves. There’s nothing confirmed just yet, but if it’s something you’d be interested in taking part in, I’d love to hear from you.
So that’s a little update from me. There’s lots happening behind the scenes, and I’m really looking forward to sharing some of it with you over the coming months.
Until the next one — and I promise it won’t be another two-month break!
